Enthusiasm
I once read a short article about enthusiasm, which basically boiled down to this: There is only one degree difference in temperature between hot water and boiling water. Water at 211 degrees Fahrenheit is just hot water. But add one more tiny degree of heat, and water boils—becomes active and turns to steam. That steam can turn turbines, producing more energy with every bubble. The author went on to say that human activities can be compared to this water phenomenon in the following way: When people become complacent or sit back and watch or read about the events unfolding around them, they are like hot water. They just sit there. No activity, no productivity, no steam. But something happens and, all of a sudden, this same person, who was sitting and watching or reading, now becomes active, calling, writing, canvassing, voting, protesting, encouraging, and other very “active” verbs. The article called this "something" enthusiasm.
So, what has happened to our enthusiasm? I still hear a few voices here and there; some of us still write our Congressmen regularly. Some are still blogging. But our numbers have fallen; our voices are not being heard with the same urgency they were last year. Did we get tired of the fight? Have we forgotten what it takes to get our point heard in DC and Little Rock? Do we really believe that a new crop of freshmen Congressmen is enough to get the country back on the right track? Polls are saying the Tea Party people have gone to sleep. I truly hope this is not true.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am still not comfortable with what is going on in the halls of Congress. This stop gap stuff just isn’t getting it. Where is the spine? Where are the voices? Have we been relegated to the scrap heap of history? If so, then you might as well start the forgetting right now. Forget about liberty in its real sense—where men are free to govern themselves, where we are free to speak our minds without fear, where we are free to defend ourselves against brigands and evil, where we are free to live in the manner and style we choose.
Are we really willing to let Congress continue to spend us into oblivion? Where is everyone? Are you asleep? Now is NOT the time to rest. Take your second wind and run even faster. We must make these people know our will. We must let them know that we will NEVER fall asleep again as we have in the past.
Here is an example of type of evil of which I am fearful today: Radical environmentalists want to control every aspect of the lives we live, from the foods we eat—or don’t eat—to the type of light bulbs and the sources of energy we use. They want to dictate the types of vehicles we can drive and the types of clothing we can wear. They want to mandate where we can and cannot vacation, live, and work. Just look at the types of vehicles being thrust upon this nation--little boxes on wheels that get plugged into a socket at night. It does not matter that much of what these folks say is not true or questionable at best. It does not matter that much of what these folks say has been faked or that selective data were used to derive their conclusions. It does not even matter some of the actions they demand are counter productive to the ends they claim they support. They keep on repeating their mantras, hoping that the sheer repetition will convince us of their “truth.” Science and the mass media have bought the line—and they support the line, even when the line is a lie or when it is known to be false. The voices of some scientists who want honesty and “REAL” science to prevail are shouted down, they are fired, or they are disregarded by their jaded “peers” and the media who are supposed to be reporting the truth.
This is only one example of the type of thing that would NEVER have been allowed to exist when newspapers actually hired reporters to find and write the truth instead of inventing details and “facts” which are used to support a liberal bias. Reporters are not encouraged to eliminate bias in their writing; they are actually encouraged to embrace it—expound upon it and embellish it. Therefore, truth is a casualty of this type of skewed thinking and “reporting.”
But, enthusiasm can be used to develop defenses against these wrong-headed, biased progressives. We need enthusiasm and we need it in large numbers: we must write, call, fax, email, tweet, and otherwise converse with our elected representatives—our hired help--the people we sent to DC or our state houses to represent us, the people. We must support groups that gather us together for a united front against the wiles of the VERY WELL ORGANIZED Progressives in this nation and around the world. We cannot let our guards down now.
We MUST take and hold our position as the government because WE THE PEOPLE are the government; we have the voice; we are the country; we must take it back from these politicians who do not know the Constitution nor its principles. These people who are more interested in being re-elected than they are in doing the will of the people--Let us show them, once and for all time, that these two concepts are inextricably linked—now and forever. If they want re-election they had better listen to the public voice.
To do that, however, we must spend less time in front of the TV than in more ACTIVE pursuits. WE must communicate with each other and with them. Whether you align yourselves with a Tea Party group or are just tired of the old Potomac Two-Step and business as usual in the state house, remember this:
You are the government.
You hired these folks to do you will.
You are ultimately responsible for holding them accountable to you.
You MUST develop some enthusiasm for this nation and its principles or we will lose it and them.
Enthusiasm is only one degree away. Start boiling now!!
